Where is NARI located?

NARI is located on the Royal Park Campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (formerly called Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service or the original Mount Royal Hospital), Parkville, near the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens. This is not the main campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

How do I get to NARI?

By Car

Limited free parking for NARI volunteers and visitors is available in the grounds just inside Gate 4 of the campus. You are advised to fill in the parking register at NARI Reception desk in Building 8 upon arrival as parking inspectors regularly monitor parking areas. You will be issued with a permit to display on dashboard and returned to reception before leaving. Alternatively, paid short-term parking within minutes walking distance is available in the hospital car park accessed via Gate 1 in Poplar Road.

By Public Transport

Depending on where you are coming from, there are a number of public transport options.

Tram: From William Street in the city, the 55 tram (West Coburg) runs along Peel Street and Flemington Road to NARI. Get off at stop number 26, and walk along Poplar road, away from the Zoo and the Train Station – NARI is approximately a 5 minute walk in a westerly direction (on the right-hand side).

Train: Catch the Upfield train and get off at Royal Park Railway Station. Cross the tram tracks and walk along Poplar road. From the train station it is a 5 minute walk to NARI.

Bus: A new bus service Route No: 505 – commenced operation in May 2011 through the Parkville Garden Estate as a one year trial. The new bus service operates between Moonee Ponds Interchange and the University of Melbourne, stopping in front of gate 4 of the Royal Park campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, opposite the main entry of the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL). Please see timetables on Metlink website.
