About the National Ageing Research Institute
The National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) aims to be the centre of excellence in Australia for research into ageing and improving the quality of life and health of older people.

NARI welcomes local and international students from a wide range of disciplines interested in research into older people. Supervising and hosting students at several levels of study — Honours, Masters, and PhD — is viewed as an important aspect of our work. Situated at the Parkville campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Institute is close to major academic and health facilities and offers an atmosphere conducive to both work and study.

Supervision at NARI
Senior staff at NARI have internationally recognised expertise in a variety of fields and offer students excellent supervision opportunities. Supervising staff come from a number of disciplines, including medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, nutrition, psychology, arts and health promotion. For more information about current staff at NARI, please visit NARI Staff page.

NARI provides a rich and diverse research environment which investigates issues in clinical, psycho-social, and public health areas and service evaluations. Students will be exposed to innovative projects, professional seminars and vibrant interaction with other staff and students undertaking or completing research projects. Current students and their research projects can be found at NARI Students page.

Resources for Students at NARI
NARI offers work space and facilities to support students and opportunities to attend and/or present at research seminars and clinical meetings within the organisation.

Areas of Research Interest
Areas of research include dementia (from both a clinical and public health perspective), carers, falls and balance, physical activity, psycho-social and mental health, women’s health, stroke, pain and music/diversional therapies. Please visit NARI Research pages for more information.

NARI also works closely with many other research, academic, community and health service organisations. This presents students with many opportunities to collaborate with other organisations. NARI is also willing to co-host or share projects with other institutions as an opportunity may arise.
