Physical Activity for Older People Forum

Synopsis:         

Physical Activity for Older Adults is a current evidence and best practice forum designed to meet the professional development needs of clinicians, community care workers, fitness leaders and those involved with health promotion, education and policy for older adults. This forum explores the current Physical Activity Guidelines for Older Adults; research in specific areas exercise; exercise for chronic disease management; and sustainability of physical activity programs. A panel discussion highlights the implementation of practical solutions.

Managing Falls in Residential Care

Synopsis:         

This program is designed to meet the professional development needs of residential facility managers and staff. This interactive workshop will address current evidence which exists for falls risk factors and prevention strategies in residential settings; falls risk assessment, minimisation and reporting. It will incorporate the multi-disciplinary experiential SPLATT training program, a series of workstations led by a team of clinicians with extensive falls prevention knowledge.

Assessment and Care Planning Workshop

Synopsis:         

This program is designed to meet the professional development needs of community based aged and disability assessment staff and case managers working both within the HACC program and other programs catering for the needs of older people or people with disabilities. The program incorporates the principles of person-centred care which supports independence, as reflected in the HACC Active Service Model. Key areas include assessment of decision-making capacity; goal-setting, development and implementation of care plans; and communication skills for understanding individual needs and building effective care partnerships.

Priority of Access (POA) tool training

In 2002-03 NARI developed a training program for Western Metropolitan Region Local Government assessment staff. Feedback from training lead to development of a revised POA tool (POA2). The training report and modification to the tool is available here ....

In 2003-04 the Northern Metropolitan Region Local Government HACC agencies funded NARI to undertake training and further trialing of the tool. Minor modifications were made to the tool leading to POA3. The training report and development of POA3 is available here ....

Further training in use of POA3 has been conducted in 2004 with the City of Monash and the Loddon Mallee Region.
