Ms Betty Haralambous
BSW MSW

Betty is a Research Fellow in the Preventive and Public Health Division, NARI and has interest and research experience in the areas of service evaluation (including projects in residential and community settings), as well as projects aiming to improve outcomes for older people with cognitive impairment (e.g. reducing restraint use in residential care). She has wide experience in project design, implementation, evaluation and policy development. She has strong experience in developing programs and undertaking research in relation to the ethnic aged. Her previous work includes local government aged care, the ethnic services sector and the Victorian Department of Health where she was involved in the development and implementation of aged care and primary health policy. In 2002, Betty completed a thesis submitted as part of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Social Work titled ‘The Provision of Services to Ethnic Older People by Victorian Local Government’. As a result of this research, Betty was awarded the Stegley Award for Social Justice in December 2002. Betty worked at NARI from 2003-2006 where she was involved in a range of projects including literature reviews and evaluations of community based services. She returned to NARI in late 2007 after taking on the role of Regional Manager at Fronditha Care (a Greek not-for-profit community based organisation) for 12 months. In her role, Betty was responsible for managing 2 residential care facilities, Home and Community Care Services and Community Aged Care Packages for the Greek community across the Southern and Eastern Regions of Melbourne. Since returning to NARI in late 2007, Betty has continued to manage and be involved in a range of research projects.
